Welcome to my home page

My name is Subhajit Ghoshal and I am a GIScientist,Physical Geographer and a Geologist. My research interest focuses formulating and applying remote sensing and image processing algorithms and integrating them with GIS tools for improved interpretation and understanding of Earth System processes.

Remote sensing and geographic information systems form a synergistic system, referred to as GIScience. GIScience is particularly well suited to the examination of physical and cultural landscape conditions through interrelationships between scale, pattern, and process, a paradigm that has gained prominence in Earth resource management and environmental studies. Remote sensing is advancing rapidly as sophisticated sensor systems obtain data with increasingly detailed spatial, spectral, temporal and radiometric resolution.

My research focuses on using these data to extract quantitative, biophysical and environmental data and analyzing them for better interpretations of landscapes and ecosystems. I am particularly interested in applying remote sensing data and GIS tools to analyze human impacts on the environment and environmental change. I have worked on several projects that incorporate human impacts on river systems, watershed, and flood hazards.
